“Sediment Sampling in the United States University-National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS) Fleet: Meeting the needs of future science”

Abstract:

The Oregon State University Marine Sediments Sampling (MARSSAM) facility provides global logistical and technical support for most United States National Science Foundation-supported marine geology field sampling, including 4” diameter (jumbo) piston coring systems. In this presentation MARSSAM lead coring technician Paul Walczak will review currently available technologies and platforms in the US fleet. In addition to discussing the capabilities and limitations of existing systems, we will review current modifications in development to meet the evolving scientific priorities of the marine geoscience community.
