Research Interests:

Deciphering high resolution records of marine environmental change during past warm interglacials to ascertain the potential response of the Southern Ocean and New Zealand to future warming as projected by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and other model simulations. Antarctic forcing of the Southern Ocean and SW Pacific as part of the Antarctic Drilling project (ANDRILL) based on correlation of deep time records from McMurdo Sound and the NZ region using records from ocean drilling legs. Determining the processes that govern landscape response and the passage of sediment from the mountains to the ocean off the central eastern North Island (in collaboration with the US MARGINS programme). Evaluation of type, frequency and impact of sediment gravity flows on the global submarine cable network.Antarctic-Southern Ocean change over the last 150 years and recent geological time (last 300,000 years) and their impact on New Zealand.

Projects:

Participation in the following international science programmes: Tripartite Programme on Climate (NZ, Australia, UK), Ocean Drilling Program (ODP), MARGINS Source to Sink, International Marine Global Change Study (IMAGES), World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE), Antarctic Drilling project (ANDRILL) and Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) -shore-based scientist.
