Welcome to DGO!
Exciting times for the College of Ocean and Earth Science with the official launch of the Department of Geological Oceanography (DGO) in June 2016! After a decade of planning and development, with Ph.D. degree granting status starting in 2005, we have now formalized the department that presently consists of 8 full-time faculty. Already one of the country’s top oceanography schools, the College aims to establish the DGO as a premier center in land-ocean interactions, sedimentary processes/records, and global change. Following the official launch, the DGO is currently in the process of expanding its faculty with the addition of six new full-time positions (International Faculty Cluster Hire), open to qualified applicants at any level with competitive start-up, compensation and special incentives. Furthermore, Xiamen University recently launched a 3600-ton (78 m) research vessel with the capability for interdisciplinary studies of sediment processes and the sedimentary record in China’s diverse marginal seas. Moreover, Xiamen University is in the final phases of completing a new marine research station for cutting-edge education and research in oceanography. Xiamen University envisions the development of a world-class program in Geological Oceanography with an internationally diverse faculty, and for all of us here these are clearly exciting times!
