    The Dongshan Swire Marine Station (D-SMART) launched on 1st June 2017.The station will act as a long-term land-sea-air boundary environmental elements observation station, an open marine science and technology lab, and a marine observation instruments testing site.   • The 'Tan Kah Kee' was officially delivered

    The XMU's research vessel 'Tan Kah Kee' returned to Xiamen from shipyard on 5th April 2017.And it opened the first scientific expedition to South China Sea from may to June. For more information, please visit the R/V website (in Chinese).

About DGO

The oceanography disciplines of Xiamen University enjoy a long and profound history. Faculty of Xiamen University started oceanography study back to the early 1920s. Based on the development of past decades, a complete and competitive oceanography discipline system including physical oceanography, marine chemistry, marine geology, marine biology and marine physics and a couple of state-level research platforms have been established at Xiamen University.

Marine Geology is a significant part in the oceanography disciplines of Xiamen University. There has been a master program since 2003 and a PhD program since 2005 in Marine Geology. The Department of Geological Oceanography was officially established in June 2016. It has 8 full-time faculty members and 2 part-time Visitorss currently, and receives 8-10 master students and 3-4 PhD students each year. The research areas of the current faculty members mainly include marine sedimentology, hydrogeology, sediment transport and dynamics, sedimentary geochemistry, paleoclimatology and paleoceanography. Xiamen University envisions the development of a world-class program in Geological Oceanography with international and diverse culture. We are seeking applications from international scientists and will offer state-of-the-art instrumentation and internationally competitive packages for qualified candidates.
