About DGO

The oceanography disciplines of Xiamen University enjoy a long and profound history. Faculty of Xiamen University started oceanography study back to the early 1920s. Based on the development of past decades, a complete and competitive oceanography discipline system including physical oceanography, marine chemistry, marine geology, marine biology and marine physics and a couple of state-level research platforms have been established at Xiamen University.

Marine Geology is a significant part in the oceanography disciplines of Xiamen University. There has been a master program since 2003 and a PhD program since 2005 in Marine Geology. The Department of Geological Oceanography was officially established in June 2016. It has 9 full-time faculty members and 2 visiting Chair Professors currently, and receives 8-10 master students and 3-4 PhD students each year. The research areas of the current faculty members mainly include marine sedimentology, hydrogeology, sediment transport and dynamics, sedimentary geochemistry, paleoclimatology and paleoceanography. Xiamen University envisions the development of a world-class program in Geological Oceanography with international and diverse cultures. We are seeking applications from international scientists and will offer state-of-the-art instrumentation and internationally competitive packages for qualified candidates.
